On June 2, 2026, the President of Burkina Faso, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, held a working session at the Koulouba Palace with his Beninese counterpart, Romuald Wadagni, who was in Ouagadougou for an official visit.
Following their bilateral meeting, the two heads of state underscored the significance of reviving and deepening their nations’ cooperation. According to the joint communiqué issued by Burkina Faso’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Karamoko Jean Marie Traoré, the discussions reflected a shared commitment to strengthening a partnership built on trust, solidarity, and collaborative solutions to regional challenges.
The security situation in West Africa was a key focus of the talks. Both leaders emphasized the urgent need to bolster joint efforts against terrorism, cross-border crime, and violent extremism. President Traoré and President Wadagni reaffirmed their dedication to working together to foster peace, stability, and sustainable development across the region.
The economic agenda was equally prominent, with discussions centered on trade, industry, vocational training, infrastructure, and logistics. The strategic importance of the Port of Cotonou in supplying Burkina Faso was highlighted, along with the need to streamline transport corridors. The presidents agreed to expedite the fifth session of the Joint High Commission for Cooperation and finalize pending agreements. They also celebrated the harmonious integration of their communities and the enduring historical and human ties between their peoples.
The visit concluded with an official invitation from the Beninese leader to his Burkinabe counterpart, signaling a renewed momentum toward regional prosperity and integration.
