The National Police of Chad announced the apprehension of 29 suspected criminals during coordinated operations in N’Djamena between May 15 and June 2, 2026.

Key arrests made

According to Police Chief Mahamat Idriss, the crackdown involved multiple units, including intelligence services, public security commissariats, central investigation teams, and the Ngueli border patrol. The suspects face charges ranging from arms trafficking and criminal conspiracy to aggravated theft, armed robbery, vehicle break-ins, and illegal border crossings.

The arrested individuals were organized into four distinct groups based on the severity and type of their alleged crimes:

  • Criminal conspiracy and armed robbery suspects: Accused of orchestrating violent heists.
  • Motorcycle theft ring: Individuals caught in the act of stealing motorcycles, often with accomplices.
  • Electronics and valuables thieves: Suspected of stealing laptops, phones, gold, jewelry, and other high-value items.
  • Vehicle burglars: Caught red-handed breaking into cars, some during daylight hours.

The suspects were formally interrogated and charged under standard legal procedures before being placed in custody pending further judicial review.
