Chad vice-premier minister assesses local governance in Moundou

The Deputy Prime Minister in charge of Territorial Administration, Limane Mahamat, has been in Moundou since May 19, 2026, as part of a mission to monitor and evaluate territorial governance.

Held from May 20 to 21 at the headquarters of the Western Logone Provincial Council, the event brought together government delegates from southern provinces, prefects, mayors of urban communes, provincial council presidents, as well as deputies and senators.

At the opening of the discussions, the government delegate for Western Logone, Dago Yacoub, warmly welcomed the delegation from N’Djamena. He emphasized that this gathering would allow authorities to gain deeper insight into local realities and the urgent needs of the population. In his view, the mission provides an opportunity for the head of the delegation to experience firsthand the ground realities and deliver tangible solutions to pressing concerns.

Speaking during the session, Deputy Prime Minister Limane Mahamat highlighted the southern region’s pivotal role in the national economy, describing it as the country’s “agricultural breadbasket” due to its critical contribution to food security. He also addressed pressing security challenges affecting southern provinces, including conflicts between herders and farmers, intercommunal tensions, and illegal arms trafficking—issues that he noted undermine social cohesion and deepen community divisions.

Through this mission, Chadian authorities aim to strengthen local governance and enhance coordination between central administration and local authorities.
