A legal complaint has been filed with the Prosecutor of the Republic at the High Court of Dakar against Ousmane Sonko, former Prime Minister, current National Assembly President, and leader of the PASTEF party.

The complaint was submitted by a collective of descendants of Serigne Touba, who are demanding an investigation into remarks made by Mr. Sonko during the inauguration of his party’s headquarters. In his speech, he allegedly stated that “dirty money entered the holy city of Touba,” as outlined in the complaint documents.

The plaintiffs, identifying themselves as Senegalese citizens, young intellectuals, and economic operators—some of whom are grandchildren of Touba’s founder—contend that these statements damage the honor, reputation, and dignity of the holy city and its residents.

In their legal filing, they request that the Prosecutor:

  • Initiate a formal investigation into the allegations;
  • Summon Ousmane Sonko to clarify his remarks and provide supporting evidence;
  • Conduct all necessary inquiries to determine the validity of the claims.
