Ligue 1: Nantes sanctioned with empty stadium after fan incidents

The Canaries will play their first home match in Ligue 2 without supporters after disciplinary sanctions.

Nantes face additional sanctions beyond the initial match behind closed doors, as the club’s supporters’ tribune will remain closed for two more games.

The Ligue de Football Professionnel (LFP) disciplinary board confirmed the final score of 0-0 in the match between Nantes and Toulouse from the last Ligue 1 matchday. This decision follows the definitive interruption of the game after fan incidents involving smoke bombs and pitch invasions.

In a statement, the LFP explained: “After reviewing the investigation report, the board has officially confirmed the score achieved on the field at the time of definitive interruption (0-0).” The disciplinary measures also include one firm match behind closed doors at the Beaujoire stadium, followed by the closure of the Loire tribune for two more matches.

On May 17, during the 34th matchday, Nantes’ match against Toulouse was halted after supporters invaded the pitch following smoke bomb incidents. The situation was eventually brought under control by CRS security forces, but the match could not resume due to safety concerns.

The referee, Stéphanie Frappart, announced the definitive interruption of the game “on prefectural decision for security reasons”. As Nantes prepares for their return to Ligue 2, their first home game will be played in an empty stadium.
