The Moroccan capital, Rabat, is set to host the African Maritime Forces Summit (AMFS) 2026 from July 20 to 24, under the leadership of the Royal Moroccan Navy. This year’s edition, organized in partnership with the U.S. Naval Forces Europe-Africa (NAVAF) and U.S. Marine Forces Europe-Africa (MARFORAF), places maritime security and innovation at the forefront of discussions.

The summit’s agenda is structured around three core pillars: national policy innovation through inter-ministerial collaboration, regional cooperation with neighboring countries and international partners, and technological advancements in maritime security. According to Rear Admiral Mohamed Tahin, Inspector of the Royal Moroccan Navy, the event underscores Morocco’s commitment to fostering African cooperation and strengthening regional stability.
«The discussions will focus on emerging technologies and collective problem-solving to address shared threats,» he explained. «These include illegal fishing, maritime trafficking, piracy, terrorism, irregular migration, and environmental protection, all of which demand coordinated responses and robust partnerships.»

Rear Admiral George Wikoff, Commander of NAVAF, highlighted the summit’s role in tackling cross-border threats that undermine Africa’s economic stability. «Maritime security is vital for legal trade, food security, and the livelihoods of communities dependent on Africa’s waterways,» he noted.
The AMFS 2026 also serves as a platform to enhance U.S.-Morocco military cooperation, particularly in defense industry development. Ben Ziff, Chargé d’Affaires at the U.S. Embassy in Rabat, emphasized ongoing discussions on joint production, job creation, and strengthening Morocco’s defense manufacturing ecosystem.
«Our partnership with Morocco is built on shared capabilities and mutual security needs,» he stated. «The country’s industrial base offers significant potential to meet both our defense requirements and those of other allies in the region.»
