The governments of Morocco and the United Kingdom are setting ambitious goals to double bilateral trade and accelerate investment flows, leveraging the transformative potential of major infrastructure projects tied to the 2030 FIFA World Cup. Speaking at a high-level business forum in Rabat, Morocco’s Minister of Industry and Trade, Ryad Mezzour, and the UK’s Minister of State for International Trade, Chris Bryant, outlined a shared vision for deeper economic cooperation.
During his official visit to Morocco at the head of a delegation including government officials and private sector leaders, Bryant underscored the strategic importance of doubling trade volumes and strengthening partnerships. He highlighted how the 2030 World Cup represents more than just a sporting event—it is a catalyst for infrastructure upgrades, economic diversification, and long-term legacy-building across the country.
Mezzour emphasized that the World Cup is part of a broader national development strategy aimed at modernizing transport networks, healthcare systems, and public amenities not only in host cities but across Morocco. Over the next eight years, the country is rolling out a comprehensive territorial and economic transformation plan designed to position itself as a key player in global value chains.
Addressing British business leaders at the forum, Mezzour invited their companies to engage with Morocco’s public procurement opportunities and strategic projects to enhance the nation’s integration into international markets. He stressed that cooperation should move beyond mere technology transfer, focusing instead on investment-driven partnerships that drive innovation, competitiveness, and sustainable growth.
The two-day forum, held in Rabat and Casablanca on June 2 and 3, brought together nearly 50 British firms specializing in infrastructure, transport, security, engineering, design, and professional services.
