France’s decisive 2-0 triumph over Morocco led to widespread celebrations across Île-de-France that were remarkably peaceful, with a notably low number of arrests.

The French national team’s 2-0 quarter-final victory against Morocco on Thursday ignited joyous celebrations, yet the night remained largely free of major disruptions. A festive atmosphere enveloped Paris and its surrounding suburbs, punctuated by only a few isolated incidents.

Ten individuals apprehended

While most revelers celebrated peacefully, a few supporters in the capital set off flares, and some instances of firework mortar discharges were reported in the inner suburbs. By Friday morning, a provisional count showed ten individuals were apprehended across Paris and its immediate vicinity in connection with the France-Morocco match festivities. Specifically, three arrests were made in Paris for phone theft, another four in the capital for armed violence and conspiracy to commit violence, and three more in Seine-Saint-Denis for firing mortars. It remains unclear whether all these arrests resulted in formal custody.

Minor injury reported after rixe in 7th arrondissement

In Paris, an unexpected power outage led to the cancellation of the match screening at the Grand Rex, prompting fans to seek out nearby bars. Following the final whistle, crowds spilled onto the streets, causing temporary traffic disruptions. However, police intervention quickly guided them back to the sidewalks, resolving the situation without further incident.

On Quai Jacques Chirac in the 7th arrondissement, a confrontation among supporters around 12:30 AM resulted in a minor injury. One individual sustained a superficial knife wound to the hip and was subsequently hospitalized.

Authorities had previously designated this France-Morocco quarter-final as a “high-risk” event. Intelligence reports indicated an increased potential for public gatherings and the use of pyrotechnics, regardless of the outcome, primarily due to the match’s eliminatory nature and the high stakes of a semi-final qualification, even with its late 10 PM broadcast time.
