The inauguration ceremony began with the Constitutional Court’s official announcement of the presidential election results, delivered from the stage in solemn judicial attire.
Moments later, all eyes were on Romuald Wadagni as he took the oath of office. Standing tall in a navy-blue suit and tie, his right hand raised, he vowed to “uphold and defend the Constitution,” adding his commitment to face “the consequences of perjury if necessary.” The declaration was met with a 12-gun salute.
Following the oath, Wadagni was formally invested as Grand Master of the national orders. The Chief of Staff then presented him with the national flag, symbolizing the transfer of leadership.
In his address, the newly sworn-in president pledged to lead Benin with unwavering integrity, courage, and dedication. He emphasized his commitment to upholding the rule of law and safeguarding fundamental freedoms. His vision for the nation includes fostering inclusive economic growth that benefits every household.
The president also addressed security concerns, affirming that Benin would remain resolute against any threats to its stability.
Strengthening regional ties
The ceremony held at the Palais des congrès drew notable attendees, including former Beninese leaders Nicéphore Soglo and Thomas Boni Yayi, as well as 16 international delegations. Among them were France’s minister delegate for international partnerships and representatives from Benin’s neighbors—Togo, Nigeria, Burkina Faso, and Niger, where relations remain fragile.
Expressing gratitude for their presence, Wadagni underscored the necessity of deeper regional collaboration. “We have no choice but to work together,” he declared, stressing the shared destiny of neighboring nations.
