Senegal’s political landscape reshaped as President Faye creates ‘Kiiraay’
DAKAR — A defining moment in Senegalese politics unfolded this past Saturday, July 25, 2026, as President Bassirou Diomaye Faye formally severed ties with former Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko by unveiling his own political party: Kiiraay, which translates to “shield” in Wolof.
Addressing a crowd of jubilant supporters at the inaugural gathering, Faye declared with conviction, “Kiiraay is the majority party in this nation.”
Under the banner of Patriotes républicains, the new formation champions five core principles: the Republic, ethics, transparency, brotherhood, and diligence.
