The Mayor of N’Djamena, Mr. Sanoussi Hassana Abdoulaye, conducted an on-site inspection alongside a high-level delegation on May 28, 2026, to assess the critical condition of the Hilton flood control infrastructure. This urgent visit aims to prevent potential flooding risks in the capital.
During the assessment, Mr. Gadengar Roasna Rodrigue, Director of Urban Planning for the central municipality, emphasized the strategic importance of the Hilton site. He explained that this infrastructure serves as a vital water channel, directing rainwater toward the river while also protecting the city from river flooding when necessary.
The current damage to the floodgate system poses a significant concern, he noted, as the protective clapet against river flooding has deteriorated. Despite this, he confirmed that preliminary measures are already underway to prepare for the upcoming rainy season.
Following the inspection, Mayor Sanoussi Hassana Abdoulaye issued strict directives to the roadworks department, demanding immediate repairs to the floodgate within the next few days to mitigate flood risks.
