Clandestine slaughter ring dismantled in N’Djamena before Tabaski
Authorities dismantled an illegal slaughter network in Chad’s capital, seizing over 100 infected cattle and 40 sheep destined for public consumption during Tabaski celebrations. The Ministry of Livestock has launched urgent health safeguards.
A joint task force comprising the Ministry of Livestock, the Sanitary Police Coordination, and defense and security forces uncovered an illicit slaughter operation in a Machaga district residence within N’Djamena’s 8th arrondissement. The raid recovered over 100 diseased cattle and 40 infected sheep, earmarked for public distribution as Tabaski charity donations. These animals had been procured by an unidentified international NGO with the complicity of local accomplices.
The following morning, Dr. Ousmane Yosko Souhoumi, Secretary General of the Ministry of Livestock and Animal Production, personally inspected the site. Upon confirming the violations, he issued strict directives: deceased animals were to be incinerated immediately; salvageable livestock would receive urgent veterinary care and nourishment; and heightened monitoring would be enforced to protect public health.
