SOLIBRA has launched the ECO BOX project, a initiative aimed at reducing plastic waste and promoting sustainable economy in Treichville, Ivory Coast, on World Plastic Free Day.

The project is designed to collect and recycle plastic waste in the commune, which produces large amounts of trash daily that clog drains and damage sewage systems.

ECO BOX aims to transform this waste into valuable resources through a structured collection and recycling system.

The project brings together SOLIBRA, Treichville’s Fondation J’Adore, and BIRWAST, a plastic recycling company. The partnership seeks to improve waste management, preserve urban environments, and create local economic opportunities.

Several equipment were handed over to the operational teams, including six brooms, one tricycle collector, 80 trash bags, twelve rakes, gloves, shovels, and traditional cleaning tools.

The ECO BOX project aims to achieve several goals, including eliminating plastic waste from drainage systems to reduce flood risks, creating jobs for young people in the commune as collectors and drivers, and recycling collected plastics.

The project also focuses on raising awareness among residents. The collectors will encourage residents to adopt good waste disposal habits and promote a culture of cleanliness within the community.

A ceremony marked the launch of the ECO BOX project, with the cutting of a ribbon officially starting the initiative, followed by the handing over of keys to one of the collectors who would ride Treichville’s streets to collect plastic waste.
