Stricter financial proof now required for Cameroonian student visa applicants

France’s embassy in Cameroon has justified its decision to tighten financial requirements for Cameroonian students seeking visas to study in private French institutions. Diplomatic officials cite a significant increase in fraudulent applications detected through the Campus France platform as the main reason behind this move.

French embassy addresses visa fraud concerns in Cameroon

During a July 16 press conference in Yaoundé, Muriel Piquet-Viaux, Advisor for Cooperation and Cultural Action, explained that the new measures come in response to widespread irregularities in visa applications. These include falsified bank statements, forged identity documents, and misleading financial proofs submitted through Campus France.

Consular authorities have implemented enhanced verification protocols to scrutinize all submitted documents. Under the new rules, Cameroonian students admitted to private French institutions must now provide proof of full tuition payment or demonstrate sufficient funds before a visa can be issued. For those who have already paid a deposit, the embassy states that procedures will depend on individual institutions, though blocked funds will be released once the visa is approved.

Cameroon faces unique visa restrictions

Cameroon remains the only African country subjected to these tightened student visa requirements, a decision that has sparked widespread concern and criticism among affected families.
