In a bold move to enhance public welfare, Antoine Assalé Tiémoko, the mayor of Tiassalé, has declared that communal transport will be completely free on weekends starting late 2026. The initiative will first undergo a limited pilot phase before full implementation.

Boosting local mobility through financial redistribution

This groundbreaking decision reflects a strategic shift in how the municipality allocates its resources. Speaking on the matter, Mayor Assalé highlighted that Tiassalé’s own revenue—primarily from local taxes—has seen a remarkable surge. From 24 million West African CFA francs in 2019, the commune’s funds have climbed to 91 million in 2025, with projections reaching 100 million by 2026.

Community engagement drives new policy

The announcement was made during the 11th Journée de Redevabilité—a community accountability event held at the Tiassalé wedding hall on May 22, 2026. Mayor Assalé, who also serves as the chairman of the political movement Aujourd’hui et demain, la Côte d’Ivoire (ADCI), emphasized the importance of inclusive governance in shaping this initiative.
