The French Prime Minister, Sébastien Lecornu, touched down in Rabat on July 15 for a two-day official visit, during which several key agreements are set to be inked. The trip also paves the way for a future state visit by King Mohammed VI of Morocco to France.
A delegation of over a dozen ministers, including Jean-Noël Barrot, France’s Foreign Minister, and Laurent Nuñez, the Interior Minister, accompanied the Prime Minister to finalize accords spanning economic cooperation, judicial collaboration, and defense strategies. “Regional security remains a cornerstone of the partnership between Paris and Rabat,” a senior diplomatic source noted, highlighting concerns over the volatile Sahel region and the persistent threat of terrorism.
This diplomatic engagement marks Sébastien Lecornu’s first overseas trip since assuming office, following his attendance in Qatar on July 14 to convey France’s condolences on the passing of the former Emir, Hamad ben Khalifa Al Thani.
The timing of the visit carries significant weight, as it follows a period of strained relations between the two nations in 2021 and 2022, underscoring the importance of rebuilding and strengthening bilateral ties.
