High-level french ministerial delegation to visit Rabat in july

France : nouveau gouvernement sous la direction de Sébastien Lecornu

The dynamic between Morocco and France is set to intensify with an official visit by French Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu to Rabat, scheduled for July 15 and 16. Accompanying him will be a formidable delegation of ten ministers, marking this as one of the most significant diplomatic engagements between the two nations in recent memory. The agenda promises a series of crucial bilateral meetings and the anticipated signing of various agreements across multiple sectors.

The French delegation is expected to arrive in Rabat late on Wednesday, July 15. Immediately following their arrival, a private meeting is planned between Prime Minister Lecornu and the Moroccan Head of Government, Aziz Akhannouch. Concurrently, several government departments from both countries will hold separate preparatory discussions to lay the groundwork for subsequent exchanges.

A Morocco-France visit with significant political and economic implications

The highlight of this diplomatic mission is slated for Thursday, July 16, with the plenary session of the High Joint Commission for Bilateral Cooperation taking place in Rabat. This pivotal session will be co-chaired by both heads of government at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, with key Moroccan and French delegations in attendance. The commission aims to thoroughly review shared priorities and formalize new commitments through the signing of several accords.

This high-level gathering unfolds amidst a robust revitalization of the relationship between Rabat and Paris. It is considered the most substantial visit since Philippe Lalliot assumed his role as the new French Ambassador to Morocco. Beyond its political weight, the visit also underscores the profound economic ties binding the two partners. In 2024, bilateral trade reached an unprecedented 14.8 billion euros, solidifying France’s pivotal role in the Kingdom’s international economic engagements.

Trade flows vividly illustrate this interdependence. Morocco accounts for over 40% of French exports destined for the African continent, particularly in sectors such as transport, electronic equipment, chemicals, and cosmetics. Simultaneously, French imports originating from the Kingdom saw a 4.4% increase in 2024. This positions France as Morocco’s foremost economic and financial partner, while Morocco stands as Paris’s leading African client and supplier. Against this backdrop, the Morocco-France visit on July 15 and 16 is poised to reinforce established collaborations and initiate new ventures in areas deemed critical by both capitals.
