Liamidi Odouchinan elected as new mayor of Pobè, Bénin
The communal council of Pobè, Bénin, convened this Wednesday, July 8, to elect Liamidi Odouchinan as the new mayor. He steps into the role previously held by Clément Kouchadé, who was appointed to a ministerial position in the government last May.

Pobè commune now officially has a new leader. The recent election of Liamidi Odouchinan by the communal council on July 8 concludes the interim period that began after the elevation of Clément Kouchadé to a cabinet role.
Odouchinan, a prominent member of the Union Progressiste Le Renouveau (UP Le Renouveau) party, was previously a substitute on the communal council for Clément Kouchadé. He also served as the former mayor’s chief of staff, bringing a wealth of experience to his new responsibilities.
The vacancy in the mayoral office arose following Clément Kouchadé’s appointment as Minister of Secondary, Technical, and Vocational Education. This significant cabinet reshuffle occurred on May 24, as part of the government formed under President Romuald Wadagni.
During the transitional phase, prior to Odouchinan’s election, the duties of the mayor were temporarily managed by the first deputy mayor, Koukpo Zinsou Côme. This interim arrangement was formalized through a prefectural decree issued on June 1, 2026, ensuring the uninterrupted functioning of the municipal administration.
With his official inauguration, Liamidi Odouchinan is set to take full command of Pobè’s municipal affairs. His mandate will involve steering the commune’s initiatives, advancing local development projects, and enhancing the provision of essential public services to the community.
