French football is saying goodbye to another promising young talent. After weeks of intense negotiations, Toulouse FC and Sunderland have reached a full agreement for the transfer of Dayann Methalie, a left-back, during the summer transfer window. The deal was officially confirmed this Saturday.

Earlier this week, Toulouse FC had rejected an initial offer of around €33 million for the young defender. However, a revised proposal of approximately €30 million—including bonuses—was later accepted by the French club. The breakdown of bonuses and a higher fixed amount enabled Toulouse FC, led by president Kyril Louis-Dreyfus, to finalize the agreement with the 20-year-old left-back.

Methalie is set to fly to England this Saturday to complete his medical examination with Sunderland. The young international, who has four appearances for the French under-20s team, had already agreed to a five-year contract with the English club back in July.

Hailing from Toulouse’s youth academy, Methalie has established himself as a key player for the Violets. This season, he made 30 appearances across all competitions, contributing two goals and two assists in Ligue 1. His performances caught the attention of several top European clubs during the summer transfer window, but Sunderland’s ambitious project under manager Régis Le Bris ultimately won him over.

With a transfer fee of around €30 million, Toulouse FC secures another significant financial boost following the sale of Brazilian defender Emerson to Ipswich Town for nearly €32 million. Methalie’s departure marks another chapter in the club’s strategy to develop and monetize young talent.
