Tchad honors new generation of GEMIA military school recruits
The 6th graduating class of the GEMIA’s Enfants de Troupe program was celebrated in N’Djamena alongside top-performing students in a grand ceremony attended by military and civilian leaders.
N’Djamena, June 4, 2026 — Under skies heavy with significance, the Inter-Armed Forces School Grouping (GEMIA) commemorated a dual milestone today: the commissioning of its sixth Enfants de Troupe class alongside the recognition of academic and athletic excellence. The solemn event drew the participation of high-ranking military and civilian officials, including General of Division Hisseine Abderamane Haggar and the army’s second chief of staff, Yangmmargue Beh Félix.
The ceremony unfolded before an audience of generals, officers, defense attachés from allied nations, N’Djamena’s mayor, the sultan of the city’s first arrondissement, alongside proud parents of current and former recruits. The GEMIA commander delivered a powerful address, celebrating the unwavering commitment and remarkable transformation of this newest cohort.
From novices to disciplined leaders
Comprising 76 recruits who began their journey on October 6, 2025, this class endured an intense initiation known as bahutage—a rite of passage designed to cultivate brotherhood, camaraderie, and solidarity. “Today, they shed the label of ‘rookies’ to fully embrace their identity as Enfants de Troupe,” declared the general, his voice resonating through the hall.
His speech underscored the vision of President Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno, who has consistently emphasized that “the future of Chad is built in its classrooms.” This mantra finds its echo in the school’s guiding philosophy: “Learn to build better,” anchored in values of honor, discipline, and achievement.
Celebrating excellence
The celebration extended to honoring outstanding performers. Top scholars, most exemplary students by promotion, and standout athletes received accolades for their dedication. The commander extended his congratulations to all laureates, urging them to sustain their momentum of success.
In closing, the GEMIA leader issued a call to action for partners and the Alumni Association of former recruits to elevate the institution to national prominence. He concluded by wishing all personnel and students a restorative break, while expressing gratitude to parents for their pivotal role in shaping the nation’s future leaders.
