The official inauguration of the Tchad-China Friendship Park took place this Thursday under the leadership of Prime Minister and Head of Government, Ambassador Allah Maye Halina.
This cutting-edge environmental and socio-ecological project was developed by the Ministry of Environment, Fisheries and Sustainable Development through the National Agency of the Great Green Wall, aligning with the Tchad’s commitments to the Great Green Wall initiative.
Addressing the ceremony, N’Djamena Mayor Senoussi Hassana Abdoulaye highlighted the symbolic significance of the park. “This initiative stands as a testament to the strong, genuine friendship between Tchad and China, and to the success of our collaboration,” he stated.
Eco-friendly innovation meets urban development
Minister of Environment, Fisheries and Sustainable Development, Hassan Bakhit Djamous, emphasized the ecological and social pillars of the project. “The Tchad-China Friendship Park is more than a recreational space; it embodies our shared commitment to environmental stewardship and community well-being.” He added, “Designed as a space for gathering, leisure, awareness and social cohesion, it reflects our vision of greener, more inclusive and sustainable urban environments.”
The Chinese Embassy in Tchad echoed this sentiment. Ambassador Wang Xining remarked, “This park transcends infrastructure; it is a living symbol of the deep bonds between our nations.”
Green technology and community benefits
Spanning 12,460 square meters, the park integrates green infrastructure, renewable energy, sustainable water management and recreational facilities. It enhances urban vegetation through landscaped areas and green zones, improving local microclimates, reducing heat islands, promoting rainwater infiltration and boosting urban biodiversity.
The park operates entirely on a 30-kilowatt solar photovoltaic system paired with a 50-kilowatt-hour smart energy storage unit. This setup powers lighting, administrative buildings, water pumping systems and site services autonomously.
The water system includes a 92-meter-deep borehole with an estimated flow of 20 cubic meters per hour. It supports a water tower, distribution network and a community water point, meeting irrigation needs and serving nearby residents.
A multifunctional urban oasis
The park features a range of amenities, including:
- A monument symbolizing the Tchad-China friendship
- A multi-purpose pavilion
- Children’s play area
- Fitness zone and outdoor activities space
- Prayer area
- Administrative offices
- Service kiosk
- Public restrooms
- Internal pathways and parking
- Solar-powered public lighting throughout the site
