Logistical preparations and strategic goals for the upcoming summit were detailed by Hilarion Etong, the organizing committee head.
In exactly two weeks, Cameroun will be the center of diplomatic activity as it hosts the 51st session of the Assemblée parlementaire de la francophonie. Ahead of this major intercontinental summit, the organizing committee—composed of representatives from both the Senate and the National Assembly—has shared the essential details of the event. During a recent briefing, it was confirmed that the nation is preparing to welcome more than 300 delegates, including ten heads of parliament and 80 youth representatives.
Participants are expected from all four geographic regions of the APF: Africa, the Americas, Asia-Pacific, and Europe. Notable figures scheduled to attend include Amelia Lakrafi, the General Delegate of the APF, and Louise Mouchoukiwabo, the Secretary General of the Organisation Internationale de la Francophonie. To date, 275 individuals have already finalized their registration for the gathering.
The organizing body, which has been operational since January 2026, is led by Hilarion Etong, who serves as the President of the APF, head of the Cameroun section of the organization, and First Vice-President of the National Assembly. To manage the complexity of the event, 17 specialized sub-committees are overseeing various sectors, including hospitality. Eight hotels of different categories have been officially reserved to house the visiting dignitaries.
The core of the session will focus on two major thematic areas: “Multilateralism and State Sovereignty” and “Francophone Parliaments Facing Climate Change in a Changing World in Search of Development.” Under the first theme, delegates will analyze the growth of protectionism and the collective ability of the Francophone world to address terrorism, migration flows, and democratic instability. The second theme aims to provide a platform for legislators to advocate for environmental action and translate global climate accords into domestic legislation.
The official schedule begins on July 7, 2026, with a meeting of the APF bureau. This will be followed on July 8 by sessions dedicated to the youth and women’s parliamentary networks, as well as an excursion to Nachtigal for bureau members. On July 9, the four permanent commissions will convene ahead of the formal opening ceremony on July 10. The proceedings are set to wrap up on Saturday, July 11, 2026.
