Côte d’Ivoire hosts student banker day and mentoring event to boost financial careers

The second edition of the Student Banker Day (JEB) and the inaugural Mentoring Day, organized by the Alumni and Student Bankers Association of Félix Houphouët-Boigny University (AEB-UFHB) in collaboration with Afrique Femme, the Ministry of Youth Promotion, Professional Integration and Civic Service, and the Youth Employment Agency, took place at Félix Houphouët-Boigny University in Cocody.

Mr. Anderson Assui, Special Advisor to the Minister of Youth Promotion, Professional Integration and Civic Service, represented the Minister during the ceremony.

Innovative mentoring through TED Talks

This first edition of the Mentoring Day introduced a groundbreaking innovation: TED Talks designed to enhance the program with discussions on soft skills, leadership, personal development, and mentorship. The aim was to connect students with inspiring leaders and seasoned professionals, equipping them with the tools needed to navigate the job market successfully.

The first TED Talk, led by Mr. Assolé Dabiré, Human Resources Director at Zenith Bank Côte d’Ivoire, focused on the most sought-after behavioral skills by recruiters. The second, presented by Ms. Fanta Traoré, Managing Director of Empower Consulting, highlighted the critical role of networking in career growth and how a strong network opens doors to development opportunities.

High-level panels on financial innovation and economic growth

Two high-profile panels shaped the day’s discussions. The first, centered on digitalization and interoperability in the UEMOA region, brought together representatives from the Central Bank of West African States (BCEAO), Wave, Djamo, and Visa to explore payment systems, financial innovation, and inclusion.

The second panel, dedicated to life insurance, pension funds, and economic financing, featured an inspiring talk by Mr. Jean Kacou Diagou, Founder and President of the NSIA Group. He shared the key milestones of his entrepreneurial journey and the lessons learned, urging students to embrace perseverance, integrity, and long-term vision.

Networking and career guidance for tomorrow’s finance leaders

Throughout the event, students engaged directly with speakers, received practical career guidance, and expanded their professional networks through mentoring and networking sessions.

The joint initiative of the Student Banker Day and Mentoring Day underscores the commitment of AEB-UFHB, Afrique Femme, and their partners to strengthen the bridge between academia and the financial sector. By fostering experience-sharing, mentorship, networking, and skill development, the program prepares young professionals for the evolving job market while connecting them with industry decision-makers, according to organizers.
