The inaugural wave of Burkinabè pilgrims completed their spiritual journey, landing at Ouagadougou International Airport on June 2, 2026. A total of 342 faithful arrived, greeted by jubilant families and dignitaries, marking the official start of the return phase for this year’s Hajj pilgrimage.

These pilgrims, having fulfilled Islam’s fifth pillar in the sacred lands, returned with hearts full of devotion and hope. Their faces radiated joy, especially evident in the emotion of Hadja Karidja Karambiri/Koné as she stepped off the plane.

« Mecca was everything I hoped for. As a first-time pilgrim, I am truly fulfilled. Every moment was perfect… We prayed fervently for the restoration of peace and social harmony in Burkina Faso », she shared, her voice trembling with gratitude.

The Secretary-General of the Ministry of Territorial Administration and Mobility, Saïdou Sankara, conveyed the government’s deep appreciation. While refraining from final assessments, he confirmed that no major incidents had marred the pilgrimage so far.

« This is a moment of profound joy and gratitude. We have come to welcome our brothers and sisters back safely after fulfilling their sacred duty. On behalf of the Minister of State, we extend heartfelt congratulations to each returnee », he stated.

« May this spiritual journey strengthen their faith, and may the prayers offered in Mecca bring blessings to their families and our nation as a whole ».
