Gabon is currently immersed in negotiations and technical preparations with the International Monetary Fund (IMF), aiming to forge a new framework for economic cooperation. The nation consistently maintains open communication with its historic partner. Indeed, the Gabonese government affirms that “the dialogue between the Gabonese government and the IMF continues regularly, fostering a constructive and responsible atmosphere.”
Furthermore, following the spring meetings held last April, Gabonese officials and IMF teams have engaged in consistent exchanges via videoconference. These discussions adhere to a jointly established timetable, primarily dedicated to technical work. On July 2, 2026, in Washington, within the IMF’s facilities, Thierry Minko, Gabon’s Minister of Economy, Finance, Debt, and Participations, also tasked with combating the high cost of living, held a cordial meeting. He convened with the IMF Africa Director and his collaborators, including Aliona Cebotari, the mission chief for Gabon.
The administration states that “the dialogue is progressing in line with a jointly established, coherent roadmap. This framework is structured around the rectified finance law for 2026, the macroeconomic and budgetary framework for the 2027-2029 period, the gradual consolidation of economic, financial, and budgetary data, and the preparation of subsequent stages of engagement with the Fund.”
