A high-level delegation led by General Mohammed Berrid, Inspector General of Morocco’s Royal Armed Forces (FAR) and Commander of the Southern Zone, concluded a productive working visit to Mauritania this week. The military envoy was received by Mauritanian President Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghezouani in Nouakchott, with Morocco’s Ambassador to Mauritania, Hamid Chabar, also in attendance.

During the same day, the senior Moroccan military official met with Mauritanian Defense Minister Hanana Ould Sidi at the Ministry of Defense headquarters. Following productive discussions, the Mauritanian President awarded General Berrid the National Order of Merit (Commander grade) in recognition of his contributions to bilateral defense relations.

The visit also featured a key diplomatic milestone: co-chairing the 6th Mauritania-Morocco Joint Military Commission alongside Mauritania’s Chief of Staff. Both sides reviewed the robust progress in military collaboration between the two nations, emphasizing the tangible benefits and strategic value of this enduring partnership.

Military leaders from both countries commended the positive track record of cooperation, highlighting successful joint initiatives as a model for regional defense alliances. The outcomes underscore a shared commitment to strengthening security and stability in the Sahel region.
