A massive logistics operation has successfully concluded in Mali, with nearly a thousand civilian transport vehicles reaching the capital under the watchful eye of national forces. The military coordinated the movement of 940 trucks along the vital corridor connecting Kayes to Bamako between June 23 and June 29.
A strategic security mission
The mission began with the protection of 540 trucks traveling from Kayes toward Sandari. As the convoy progressed, it was reinforced by military units arriving from Diéma. During the transit, several vehicles that had been stalled along the route were integrated into the group, bringing the final tally to 940 trucks by the time the journey to the capital resumed.
Ensuring stability for the capital
Despite the inherent risks associated with current road security challenges, the entire fleet reached its destination without any significant incidents. This successful arrival is particularly critical given the recent fuel shortages and supply chain disruptions that have affected Bamako in recent weeks.
The Kayes–Bamako route serves as a lifeline for the nation, acting as the primary gateway for imports arriving from Sénégal and Mauritanie. This corridor facilitates the delivery of petroleum products, food supplies, and industrial equipment essential for the local economy and the daily needs of the population.
