In Rabat on Thursday, Abdellatif Hammouchi, Director-General of Morocco’s National Security and Territorial Surveillance, welcomed a top-tier delegation from the Spanish Civil Guard. The delegation, led by Major General Luis Peláez Piñeiro, head of the Spanish Intelligence Directorate, was in Morocco for an official visit.
According to a statement from the Direction générale de la Sûreté nationale (DGSN), the meeting underscored the robust security collaboration between Morocco and Spain—a model in counterterrorism and cross-border crime prevention.
Several high-ranking officials from the DGSN and the Direction générale de la Surveillance du territoire (DGST) were honored with prestigious Spanish decorations. These honors, issued by Spain’s Interior Minister, recognize their contributions to enhancing operational cooperation and technical assistance between the two nations.
The statement emphasized that these awards reflect the deep strategic partnership between Morocco and Spain, highlighting Madrid’s acknowledgment of Moroccan security leaders’ expertise in addressing shared threats.
During the ceremony, Major General Peláez Piñeiro praised Morocco as an «indispensable strategic partner» in combating terrorism and organized crime. He commended the advanced bilateral security cooperation in response to growing regional and global challenges.
These accolades follow the awarding of Spain’s Grand Cross of the Civil Guard Merit—the highest distinction—to Abdellatif Hammouchi in November 2025. Earlier, in 2014, he received the Police Merit Cross with Red Distinction, honoring his role in fostering an exemplary security partnership between the two countries.
