An unprecedented assault unfolded in the heart of Niamey. On the night of Wednesday, January 28 to Thursday, January 29, dozens of Islamic State fighters in the Greater Sahara (EIGS) stormed the capital city’s airport and the adjacent 101st military base. The attackers unleashed gunfire on civilian aircraft and set fire to military equipment, as captured in a video released by the assailants themselves.
