Since the Ebola Bundibugyo virus was officially declared on May 15 in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, response systems have been activated to ensure swift medical attention across affected health zones in Ituri, North Kivu, and South Kivu. A positive development in this effort is the recovery of 19 patients, who have now been discharged from the Ebola Treatment Center (CTE), based on figures from the National Institute of Public Health (INSP).
Updated health figures through June 7 show a total of 550 confirmed cases, which have led to 101 fatalities throughout the impacted regions. At present, 309 patients are undergoing treatment in isolation.
The Ituri province is confirmed as the epicenter of this outbreak. Out of the 25 health zones currently affected, 17 are situated within Ituri. This number represents nearly half of the 36 health zones that comprise the entire province.
The specific health zones in Ituri that are managing cases include Aru, Aungba, Bambu, Bunia, Damas, Gety, Kilo, Komanda, Lita, Logo, Mambasa, Mangala, Mongbwalu, Nizi, Nyankunde, Rimba, and Rwampara.
