A major fire swept through the Château market in Kpalimé, located within the Kloto 1 municipality, during the night of Sunday, September 6 to Monday, September 7, 2026. While the blaze caused severe material damage, no casualties have been reported.
How the fire unfolded
The incident began shortly after midnight in the market’s temporary relocation zone. Fueled by wooden structures and highly flammable goods, the flames rapidly spread to neighboring stalls and sheds. Firefighters, supported by local police and the National Civil Protection Agency (ANPC), responded swiftly to the emergency. Their prompt intervention successfully contained the fire overnight, preventing it from consuming the entire commercial facility.
