The civil court case between former Tourism Minister Mame Mbaye Niang and Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko over the ownership of a villa in the Cité Keur Gorgui district of Dakar has been postponed once again. The third civil chamber of the Dakar court rescheduled the hearing to July 22, 2026, marking a significant delay in resolving the long-running dispute.
The legal battle centers on a 264 m² property (lot n°R/17) that Mame Mbaye Niang claims was fraudulently transferred out of his name. The former minister initiated the civil lawsuit to invalidate the alleged illegal transfer and reclaim the villa, which he asserts was part of a strategy to prevent the recovery of the 200 million CFA francs in damages awarded to him following a Supreme Court ruling in a separate criminal case.
Legal representatives for Mame Mbaye Niang argue that the alleged transfer of the leasehold rights to Ousmane Sonko’s family constitutes an intentional act to create insolvency and shield the property from potential seizure. The upcoming hearing will focus on examining the written submissions filed by both parties, including the plaintiff’s rebuttal to the defense’s arguments presented by Ousmane Sonko’s legal team.
