The Senegalese government has confirmed it will not finance the trip for football enthusiasts to the World Cup 2026 in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. Minister of Sports Khady Diène Gaye announced this decision on national radio, closing the door on any official support for supporters traveling to cheer on the Lions.

The minister explained that each nation operates independently in organizing fan movements, and Senegal will not be an exception. During a broadcast on Sud FM, she stated, « Every country makes its own decisions. For this edition, we cannot cover supporters’ expenses. Even the names submitted—including three supporter committee presidents—were rejected during visa processing. »

Why Senegal won’t sponsor fan travel

Visa rejections played a key role in the decision, with the minister revealing that even designated representatives were denied entry permits. This left the government with no viable option to arrange an official fan delegation.

Khady Diène Gaye was unequivocal: « We will not be organizing any supporter trips from Dakar to the United States. »

What this means for Senegal’s World Cup 2026 supporters

The ruling leaves Senegalese football fans with two main options: rely on the diaspora abroad or self-fund their journey to witness the Lions in action. Without state backing, the responsibility falls entirely on individual supporters to secure their own travel and accommodation for the tournament.
