Close ties between Morocco and the United Arab Emirates stand out as a shining example of strategic cooperation, built on deep historical bonds forged by the late King Hassan II and the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.
These relations thrive on shared strategic visions, mutual political backing, a diversified economic partnership, and a joint commitment to addressing major global challenges. This alignment is regularly demonstrated through high-level exchanges, with leaders from both nations meeting whenever necessary to strengthen their alliance.
On June 2, the President of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, hosted King Mohammed VI at his residence in Rabat during a private visit. According to an official statement from the Moroccan royal cabinet, the meeting provided an ideal platform for the two leaders to discuss and compare perspectives on pressing international issues, particularly those affecting the Gulf and Middle East regions. The encounter was framed as a continuation of the deep fraternal bonds uniting both heads of state and their families over generations.
Since December 2023, the two countries have formalized an innovative and robust partnership aimed at elevating their economic, commercial, industrial, and investment ties to match the strength of their political and people-to-people connections. By nurturing unwavering mutual trust, the partnership seeks to implement pragmatic cooperation initiatives that serve shared development goals and interests, operating on the principle of mutual benefit.
This collaboration has already begun yielding tangible results, fostering operational and innovative models tailored to their agreed framework. Key priorities include backing high-value projects through financial mobilization, public-private partnerships, and investment capital. The partnership also explores strategic cooperation opportunities in food security, with a focus on joint ventures with the Office chérifien des phosphates (OCP) in the fertilizer sector. Additionally, it includes plans to develop tourism and real estate projects along the Mediterranean coast, as well as in Dakhla and Tarfaya, while also contributing to the reconstruction and rehabilitation of areas devastated by the Al Haouz earthquake.
Morocco places immense importance on the security and stability of its Gulf allies.
During the recent conflict involving the United States, Israel, and Iran, Morocco strongly condemned Iranian aggression against Gulf nations, reaffirming its solidarity with the United Arab Emirates. This stance was underscored by a phone call between King Mohammed VI and Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, where the Moroccan monarch expressed full support for the Emirates.
