Historic venues selected for FIBA World Cup 2027 African qualifiers
The FIBA Africa regional office has finalized the host nations for Window 4 of the 2027 FIBA World Cup African qualifiers. Two of Africa’s basketball powerhouses will take center stage as Tunisia and Senegal prepare to welcome top teams in late August.
Where to watch the action: Tunisia and Senegal’s top-tier arenas
Tunisia will stage all Group E matches at the state-of-the-art Salle Multidisciplinaire de Radès, located in the capital’s vibrant suburbs. This iconic venue, known for its electrifying atmosphere, will host clashes between Cameroon, Guinea, Tunisia, Nigeria, South Sudan, and Cape Verde from August 27 to 30.
Meanwhile, the Dakar Arena in Senegal will serve as the battleground for Group F showdowns. The country’s premier basketball facility will feature standout matchups featuring Senegal, Côte d’Ivoire, Mali, Angola, Egypt, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo during the same four-day window.
Tight competition in both groups ahead of critical fixtures
Group E is shaping up as a fiercely contested battle, with Cameroon leading the pack at 5-1. Tunisia, Guinea, and Nigeria all sit tied at 4-2, while South Sudan and Cape Verde remain within striking distance at 4-2 and 3-3 respectively. A single slip-up could shift the standings dramatically.
On the other side, Group F looks equally unpredictable. Senegal, Côte d’Ivoire, and Mali have all dominated with 5-1 records, while Angola (4-2) and Egypt (3-3) are hungry to climb the table. The Democratic Republic of the Congo, currently at 2-4, will need a near-perfect run to keep their qualification hopes alive.
The identities of the hosts for the fifth and final qualifying window will be revealed in due course, adding another layer of anticipation to the road to the 2027 FIBA World Cup.
