RDC: MSF appelle le Fonds mondial à maintenir le Nord-Kivu dans ses priorités concernant le paludisme

Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) has voiced profound apprehension that the health situation in North Kivu, Democratic Republic of Congo, could spiral further downwards if anticipated funding cuts materialize. This region has been grappling with a persistent humanitarian emergency for years, compounded by critical supply chain challenges that severely compromise its already fragile healthcare system.

The core of MSF’s concern lies with the potential exclusion of North Kivu from the Global Fund’s initiatives. Such a decision would mean a halt in the delivery of vital medical treatments, which are currently supplied by the Global Fund to numerous health facilities not directly supported by MSF. The organization stressed that it is simply not equipped to replace the Global Fund’s extensive reach and resources across an entire province, foreseeing a catastrophic impact on public health if this support is withdrawn.

Malaria remains the predominant reason for medical consultations at health centers operating in North Kivu. MSF underscores the urgent necessity to reinstate comprehensive support for malaria control and treatment within this highly vulnerable province, which stands as one of the most critical health zones in the country today. Adding to the crisis, North Kivu is simultaneously battling outbreaks of measles and cholera. The local population, deeply traumatized by ongoing conflict, is in desperate need of sustained international humanitarian assistance.
