In a recent collaborative effort, WAPCO (Niger) partnered with local livestock authorities to execute a highly successful animal vaccination and deworming drive within the Zinder region. This crucial initiative extended its reach to seven distinct pastoral settlements, encompassing areas like N’Guel Eléfi and Tesker, ultimately benefiting more than 10,000 animals. This achievement signifies the successful completion of the initial stage of WAPCO (Niger)’s comprehensive “Healthy Communities” public welfare program, which has now positively impacted all communities situated along the pipeline route.
To bolster the health management capacities of local populations, WAPCO (Niger) proactively deployed its internal medical assets. Utilizing existing medical personnel and fundamental medicines, the company launched two pilot programs for complimentary community medical consultations near pumping stations 5 and 6 in early 2025. These initial efforts garnered significant positive feedback from community members. Building on this successful pilot, a more extensive needs assessment was undertaken, leading to the formal commencement of the “Healthy Communities” program’s first phase in August 2025. So far, WAPCO (Niger) has facilitated seven free community health clinics, delivering vital medical care to 1,249 local individuals, and has further supported local healthcare infrastructure by donating a tricycle ambulance to a community health facility.
Through the course of these free health outreach efforts, WAPCO (Niger)’s teams gained critical insight into the profound importance of livestock as a primary income source and livelihood for many local families. They also recognized the pressing need among pastoralists for comprehensive animal care. Addressing these crucial community needs, WAPCO (Niger) strategically broadened the scope of its “Healthy Communities” initiatives. Collaborating with regional livestock departments and other relevant organizations, the company successfully delivered vaccination and deworming services to over 20,000 animals across three key pastoral assembly points situated along the pipeline, thereby assisting herders in safeguarding their vital productive assets.

From its very establishment, WAPCO (Niger) has operated under a core philosophy of collaborative engagement, emphasizing mutual benefits and shared progress as a responsible corporate entity. While diligently ensuring the secure and consistent operation of the pipeline, the company places paramount importance on upholding its social obligations. WAPCO (Niger) consistently champions the Integrated Community Development Project (ICDP), extends philanthropic contributions, and provides essential community assistance. These actions actively enhance local living standards and socio-economic advancement, fostering a tangible “sense of gain” among residents and cultivating an external environment that supports the pipeline’s safe operations.
Looking ahead, WAPCO (Niger) is committed to further refining its community needs assessments, aiming to precisely address the evolving expectations of populations residing near its operations. The company plans to continuously expand its array of public interest initiatives, ensuring a broader distribution of development benefits among residents. As it guarantees the secure and efficient flow through this vital energy conduit, WAPCO (Niger) pledges to remain a steadfast partner with the community, implementing practical strategies to uplift livelihoods and cultivate a future of mutual growth and shared prosperity for both WAPCO (Niger) and the communities it serves.
