World Health Organization strengthens support for health NGOs in Mali
Since 2012, the World Health Organization (WHO) has spearheaded the coordination of health cluster partners across Mali. As of 2025, the nation confronts a significant humanitarian emergency, with approximately 28% of the population—around 6.4 million individuals—requiring urgent aid. Despite the scale of the crisis, the humanitarian response plan remains critically underfunded at just 8.5%, with the health sector receiving only 6% of the necessary resources, severely hindering the ability of humanitarian workers to provide essential care.
To tackle these pressing challenges, the FHRAOC’s second reserve allocation for Mali focuses on assisting communities displaced by armed conflict and instability, particularly within the regions of Gao, Mopti, and Ségou. Following rigorous advocacy by the WHO, supported by evidence-based data on the lack of access to basic medical services, health assistance was prioritized for this funding stream.
