Adama Konaté has spent 27 years mastering the art of bicycle repair and assembly. Now, operating in the newly established Médine market, he offers a diverse range of two-wheelers imported from France, the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada and China. Beyond sales, Konaté provides repair services and custom assembly, catering to the growing demand spurred by the hydrocarbon crisis.
“The market has expanded significantly in recent times,” he explains. “Prices vary depending on specifications, but quality and affordability keep customers returning.”
Artisans crafting essentials for daily life
Just steps away, Drissa Traoré runs a workshop where he crafts a variety of household essentials. His offerings include energy-efficient stoves, dowry chests, peanut grinders and ovens—all produced on-site. Since joining the new market a year ago, Traoré has seen a noticeable improvement in his income.
“I’m grateful for the progress,” he says. “The prices reflect the materials and craftsmanship, but my work ethic and discipline have made all the difference. I encourage young people to embrace commitment in their trades.”
Agricultural tools in high demand despite challenges
Fousseyni Sangaré specializes in agricultural equipment, a sector critical to Mali’s farming communities. As the rainy season approaches, he sees increased demand for plows, hoes and soil tillage accessories. Most of his stock comes from Koutiala, though supply chain disruptions due to insecurity have posed challenges.
“Many farmers remain loyal despite economic hardships,” he notes. “They understand the value of reliable tools, even when prices fluctuate.”
