Louis Marie Kakdeu, a prominent economist and academic, has been appointed director of the National Election Preparation Commission by Joshua Osih, leader of the Social Democratic Front (SDF) on June 13, 2026, in Bamenda.

Cameroon is set to hold crucial municipal and legislative elections in 2027. In anticipation, the SDF—Cameroon’s leading opposition party—is taking decisive steps to prepare for these polls through a structured approach.

The National Executive Committee (NEC) decided during its June 13, 2026 meeting in Bamenda to establish a National Election Preparation Commission. This technical body aims to strategically prepare the party’s structures to ensure the elections are conducted with transparency, efficiency, and proactive engagement.

Emphasis on grassroots mobilization and strengthened polling oversight

As part of this initiative, economist and university professor Louis Marie Kakdeu has been named director of the SDF’s new National Election Preparation Commission. His appointment follows a strategic meeting of the National Executive Committee in Bamenda, where he was tasked with identifying and recruiting qualified candidates in underserved constituencies and revitalizing the party’s grassroots structures in its traditional strongholds.

Structuring the party’s campaign for the upcoming legislative and municipal elections is a priority. Kakdeu, known as a trusted ally of Joshua Osih, previously served as the national campaign director for Osih’s 2025 presidential bid. With expertise in fiscal and economic policy, he advocates for a systematic return to the field and enhanced oversight of polling stations to uphold transparency in the electoral process.

This appointment reflects the party’s commitment to rebuilding its political presence at the grassroots level following recent electoral setbacks.
