The ties between Côte d’Ivoire and Rwanda have been further strengthened following a high-level meeting in Kigali. On May 22, Rwandan President Paul Kagame received a delegation led by Côte d’Ivoire’s Minister of State, Kobenan Kouassi Adjoumani, accompanied by the Minister of Sports, Metch Adje Silas. The meeting took place on the sidelines of the inaugural Basketball Africa League (BAL) Investor Day, where Minister Adjoumani represented President Alassane Ouattara.

During the discussions, the two leaders reaffirmed the strong bilateral relations between Abidjan and Kigali and shared a common vision for the continent’s future. The Ivorian delegation conveyed warm, fraternal greetings from President Ouattara to President Kagame. The visit underscored Côte d’Ivoire’s commitment to leveraging sports as a driver of economic growth and regional integration.

President Kagame highlighted the transformative potential of the Basketball Africa League in reshaping Africa’s sports economy. He emphasized how the league’s structured approach and investment opportunities can generate jobs and unlock the potential of African talent. Adding to the significance of the meeting, President Kagame announced his plans for an upcoming official visit to Côte d’Ivoire.

This engagement reflects the shared ambition of both nations to build a dynamic, youth-focused Africa with deep continental integration. It also aligns with Côte d’Ivoire’s broader strategy to place sports at the heart of its development agenda, reinforcing the country’s role as a key player in the region’s sporting and economic landscape.
