Eight dead in boko haram attack in Cameroon’s far north
At least eight individuals lost their lives, and another sustained injuries, following a brutal assault attributed to Boko Haram militants on Friday night in Cameroon’s Far North region.
The violent incident unfolded around 11:00 PM in Kangaleri village, situated within the Mayo-Sava department, casting a shadow of fear and despair over the community. Initially, six people were tragically killed on the spot. Three others, gravely wounded, received immediate attention after the assault. Sadly, two of these injured victims later succumbed to their wounds, raising the preliminary death toll to eight. One injured person continued to receive medical care on Saturday.
The assailants, employing their characteristic nocturnal tactics, infiltrated the village under the cover of darkness before making their escape. The precise circumstances surrounding this attack, along with the identities of those affected, are still under investigation.
During the same night, another incursion, also linked to Boko Haram jihadists, was reported in Tourou, a locality within the Mokolo subdivision, close to the Nigerian border. In this separate incident, the aggressors reportedly looted property and livestock, subsequently vandalizing a market located near Tourou’s town center. No human casualties were immediately reported for this second assault.
Cameroon’s Far North region continues to endure frequent incursions by Boko Haram combatants and splinter groups. This persistent threat persists despite ongoing military operations conducted by the Cameroonian army alongside its partners in the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) across the Lake Chad Basin.
