The Democratic Republic of the Congo’s armed forces have issued a fresh directive prohibiting unauthorized smartphone use by soldiers in combat zones. This stern warning comes as military leaders warn that even a single misplaced device could jeopardize entire units operating against rebel forces in eastern provinces.

In an official statement released on July 9, acting army spokesman Lieutenant-Colonel Mak Hazukay emphasized that smartphones pose a critical security risk when used improperly in active war zones.
