This collaboration is specifically designed to bridge the gap between academic instruction and media industry professionals, ultimately striving for a lasting enhancement in the quality of journalism across Chad.

Under the terms of this agreement, ISJCT students will gain invaluable professional experience through internships hosted by AMET’s member media outlets, significantly easing their transition into the professional arena. The pact also commits to leveraging the association’s extensive network to promote the educational institution’s initiatives and programs.

Both organizations have pledged to establish a comprehensive program for continuous education and advanced professional development. This will cater to a wide range of media professionals, including journalists, chief editors, newsroom managers, and media executives within AMET’s membership. The curriculum will encompass critical topics such as emerging journalistic practices, digital journalism, rigorous fact-checking methodologies, efficient newsroom management, sustainable media business models, the impact of artificial intelligence, journalistic ethics, ensuring the safety of media practitioners, and other pressing contemporary challenges facing the sector.

Mahamat Mamadou Djimtebaye, speaking on behalf of the ISJCT project, emphasized the critical nature of this collaboration. “A journalism school cannot truly thrive without robust engagement with industry professionals,” he stated. “Media entities serve not only as our pedagogical partners but also as essential learning environments and the prospective employers for our graduates.”

Bello Bakary Mana, the President of AMET, warmly welcomed the initiative. He highlighted its potential to empower media companies to actively contribute to nurturing the next generation of talent, while simultaneously providing current professionals with avenues to enhance their existing skill sets. “With the establishment of this superior Institute,” Mana remarked, “the path to excellence is now clearly within reach.”

The establishment of ISJCT, spearheaded by the NGO MEDEV, is significantly bolstered by support from the Swiss Cooperation, GIZ, and DW Akademie. The institution is preparing to welcome its inaugural cohort of students in October 2026. ISJCT aspires to evolve into a leading hub for foundational education, cutting-edge research, innovation, and advanced professional development across the fields of journalism, communication, and media management.

The Institut Supérieur du Journalisme et de la Communication du Tchad (ISJCT) represents a visionary undertaking by the NGO MEDEV. Its core mission is to establish a dedicated higher education institution in Chad, specializing in training for the diverse professions within journalism, communication, and media management.
