Massive human trafficking operation uncovered: 13 suspects arrested in Cameroon

Authorities dismantled a sophisticated criminal network that lured young Cameroonians with fraudulent job offers abroad. The suspects were paraded before the media today at the National Gendarmerie headquarters in Yaoundé.

A network disguised as network marketing companies

Investigators uncovered a complex human trafficking scheme operating under the guise of legitimate network marketing companies. The criminal organization, led by two primary suspects now believed to be hiding in Congo and the Central African Republic, systematically targeted vulnerable groups including students, unemployed youth, and job seekers.

The suspects promised lucrative employment opportunities abroad, requiring victims to pay substantial upfront fees under the false pretense of securing these positions. The fraudulent companies operated under several names including QNET, IGNITE, and UNIMEC, all of which have now been exposed as fronts for illicit activities.

In a coordinated operation, Cameroonian gendarmerie forces arrested 13 individuals directly connected to this trafficking network. The suspects will face legal proceedings before the competent judicial authorities in Cameroon.

Current status of the investigation

  • Two fugitives who allegedly masterminded the operation remain at large in neighboring countries, complicating efforts to dismantle the entire network.
  • Investigators are actively pursuing leads across multiple Cameroonian cities where the network operated.
  • Additional arrests are expected as the investigation continues to uncover the full extent of the criminal operation.

The case highlights the growing sophistication of human trafficking networks that exploit economic desperation, particularly among young people seeking better opportunities abroad.
