In a ceremonial groundbreaking event held in Kinshasa on Tuesday, President Félix Tshisekedi of the Democratic Republic of Congo formally launched the future Étienne Tshisekedi Boulevard. Prime Minister Judith Suminwa Tuluka and the capital’s Governor, Daniel Bumba, were present to witness the significant milestone. The project blueprint outlines the creation of a 2,020-meter primary route, featuring eight distinct traffic lanes – four designated for each direction. Complementing this main artery will be a 750-meter, two-lane access ramp. Further integral components of the construction program include the implementation of robust drainage infrastructure, the erection of bridges, the installation of culverts, and the deployment of advanced lighting equipment. The stipulated contractual timeframe for completion is twelve months.

Cr20 undertakes its inaugural public works in dr Congo

The execution of these works has been awarded to China Railway 20th Bureau Group (CR20), a Chinese enterprise renowned for its expertise in infrastructure development. Zhang Guoxu, the Director General of China Railway 20th Bureau Group Angola International Company, affirmed that this project marks CR20’s very first public works contract within the Democratic Republic of Congo. He conveyed the company’s commitment to allocating all necessary resources to ensure strict adherence to the project’s schedule and technical specifications. Furthermore, Mr. Guoxu underscored the paramount importance of construction quality and effective management of the environmental footprint throughout the project. Governor Daniel Bumba, for his part, stressed the imperative of upholding technical mandates and respecting the agreed-upon deadlines. The Governor expressed his anticipation that the new infrastructure would swiftly contribute to alleviating traffic conditions in the affected urban areas.

Prior to the groundbreaking ceremony, President Tshisekedi received a comprehensive briefing, which included a detailed presentation of the proposed route, the planned layout, and the key structural elements. Visual renderings illustrating the future boulevard were also showcased. The overarching goal is to expand road capacity along this corridor and facilitate smoother movement within a capital city frequently plagued by severe congestion. The Étienne Tshisekedi Boulevard is thus envisioned to augment the existing network by providing a broader and better-equipped infrastructure. Its ultimate effectiveness, however, will hinge on the superior quality of its execution, the timely completion within the announced twelve-month period, and its seamless integration with Kinshasa’s broader transportation arteries. Upon the conclusion of the projected construction period, this new roadway is expected to become an integral part of the capital’s road system, aiming to significantly lessen the burden on several currently overburdened routes.
