Le Mans promoted to Ligue 1, Bastia relegated to Ligue 3

The disciplinary committee of the French Football League (LFP) has officially validated the 2-0 victory of Le Mans over Bastia, securing their promotion to Ligue 1. Meanwhile, Bastia faces relegation to Ligue 3 following crowd disturbances in their stadium.

During the 34th matchday of Ligue 2, Bastia hosted Le Mans in a tense atmosphere. With just seconds remaining, referee Ruddy Buquet halted the match, evacuating players to the locker rooms to protect them from fireworks and smoke bombs thrown from the stands.

Bastia escapes point deduction

The Corsican club was handed two immediate stadium closures and one suspended closure. However, they avoided a potential point deduction for next season—a penalty they narrowly escaped. Bastia had been on probation after similar incidents in December, when a match against Red Star was abandoned following a flare thrown onto the pitch from the supporters’ section.

Sébastien Deneux, president of the LFP’s disciplinary committee, explained the decision: «In most cases, a point is deducted when an individual on the field is directly affected. Since no player was hit during the Bastia-Le Mans match, there was no grounds to revoke the probation.»
