N’Djamena court examines military man’s adultery claim against wife and her partner
A N’Djamena court is deliberating over a moral case involving adultery and dowry disputes. The military husband pressed charges after discovering his wife’s relationship with another man during his deployment.
The case unfolded when a military officer, deployed to Chad’s volatile Lac region, returned home to find his residence abandoned. His wife and three children had relocated to N’Djamena’s Bakara district, where she was living with another man. The soldier traced her through her phone signal and confronted the couple, leading to their immediate arrest by gendarmes.
During police questioning, the wife declared she had no intention of reuniting with her husband, citing emotional neglect during his prolonged absence. The prosecutor demanded strict legal consequences for adultery, including a 100,000 CFA fine for each defendant, while the plaintiff sought repayment of the 2 million CFA dowry he had provided.
The defense argued that the wife had endured unjust treatment due to her husband’s extended military commitments. After hearing both sides, the court adjourned the case for deliberation, with a verdict expected soon.
