Minister abdoul ahad ndiaye lambasts ousmane sonko’s touba remarks

Abdoul Ahad Ndiaye répond à Ousmane Sonko : « Assimiler Touba à un lieu de recel d'argent sale est un profond manque de respect »

The comments made by Ousmane Sonko during his recent visit to Touba continue to provoke strong reactions across the political landscape. Abdoul Ahad Ndiaye, the Minister of Land and Air Transport, has publicly condemned the Pastef leader’s assertions that “stolen money” was funneled into the revered holy city.

In a statement released to the public, the minister articulated his belief that these claims gravely damage the reputation of Touba and its inhabitants. “To equate Touba with a hub for illicit funds demonstrates a profound disrespect for the holy city, its people, and the fundamental values of Mouridism,” he declared.

“A profound disregard for Touba’s spiritual legacy”

Abdoul Ahad Ndiaye further argued that Ousmane Sonko’s statements betray a deep unfamiliarity with Touba’s rich history and its spiritual calling. “One must be profoundly ignorant of Touba and its spiritual heritage to brand its population as recipients of stolen wealth,” the minister asserted.

He emphasized that the residents of the religious center are renowned for their unwavering adherence to the teachings of Cheikh Ahmadou Bamba and the principles of dignity, hard work, and integrity that form the bedrock of Mouridism. “The people of Touba are recognized for their dignity and commitment to Serigne Touba’s teachings. To suggest they could be swayed by money is a grave misjudgment,” he insisted. The minister also suggested that the absence of key religious and local authorities during Ousmane Sonko’s visit signaled disapproval of his approach.

Abdoul Ahad Ndiaye seized this opportunity to commend President Bassirou Diomaye Faye’s dedication to Touba. According to him, the Head of State pays close attention to the concerns of the holy city’s residents. “The President understands the significance of Touba and its people. He works daily to provide concrete solutions to their challenges,” he affirmed. The minister also voiced his support for Prime Minister Mouhamadou Al Amine Lo, believing that the Prime Minister, under the President’s leadership, is diligently working to expedite numerous issues inherited from previous administrations.

Beyond the current controversy, Abdoul Ahad Ndiaye urged political figures to prioritize national interests over divisive confrontations. He maintained that Senegal requires greater cohesion and unity to overcome its economic and social hurdles. Reaffirming his confidence in Bassirou Diomaye Faye, he characterized the Head of State as “a man of integrity, deeply devoted to his homeland, and entirely committed to serving the Nation.” He concluded, “His sole focus is Senegal. Despite attacks and attempts to discredit him, he remains dedicated to his mission: to fulfill the expectations of Senegalese citizens and steer the country towards progress and emergence.”
