In 2024, a trace amount of meldonium—a banned substance—was detected in Mudryk during a routine anti-doping test, resulting in a four-year ban. The Ukrainian winger appealed the decision to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). However, under updated World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) guidelines, a similar finding today would not have triggered disciplinary action.

The Football Association (FA) clarified in a statement, “Regulations have since been revised.” They noted that while Mudryk’s case could not be reassessed retroactively, the meldonium levels found in his sample would no longer be flagged today, meaning no anti-doping violation would have occurred.

“Given these changes and other case-specific factors,” the FA and Mudryk reached a mutual agreement, with WADA’s endorsement. As part of this resolution, Mudryk admitted to violating anti-doping protocols but has already served the equivalent suspension period. With the ban now lifted, he is free to resume competitive play immediately.
